Omicron might be mild on an individual basis. But as it is more infectious, more people will catch it. So the total number of flooding the hospitals and eventually dying from the virus may well be as high or higher than a delta wave.
Example: If Omicron is 1/2 as deadly as delta but is twice as infectious… the same number of people will land in hospital.
