Here in October 2021. They want to raise my rent $153 a month in Lakeland. It went up $125 last year. I got a written offer for the $153 increase last week. At that time, market rent for a 2/2 was 1434. They offered me a market increase of 153 from 1236 to $1,389.00 plus other expenses it would go from 1,472 to $1,625.00 NOW, just today, they said the market rent has gone up since last week from 1434 to 1479…and that they aren’t doing anymore “renewal offers’. That everyone would have to pay the $1, 479. That would make my rent go from 1472 to $1,725.00 This has got to be considered Unsustainable. Waiting to see if they will honor their written Lease renewal offer….they locked their systems and waiting to hear from the leasing office to see IF they can still offer me the $1,625.00 It;s really a doomsday for housing, thereby spilling over into the rest of the economy.🙏

Obviously the way to solve an affordable housing crisis is to import more poor people who will make the problem worse, and worse, and worse …

This is how it is in 3rd world countries. Too many people can't afford to live because the wealthy and corrupt leadership keep all the wealth and raise prices and taxes on everyone else. The american dream is dead.

Now it's worse because landlords won't rent to low income/low credit folks as long as there is a whiff of COVID somewhere in the world. Imagine getting stiffed by tenants and not being able to evict them for more than a year.

There is no shortage of affordable housing. What there is a shortage of is affordable land. Our society is plagued by centuries of land speculation and land hoarding. How is this possible. Simple. Land is severely under-taxed everywhere. People can hold onto vacant land for decades because land rarely gets reassessed as land prices are increasing. We need to exempt housing units from taxation. The annual tax on housing equates to a sales tax on housing imposed year after year after year. We need to move to a land-only property tax, the optimum annual tax charged equal to the potential annual rental value of whatever land is held. Doing so will force land onto the market. Owners will have a real financial incentive to bring the land they hold to its highest, best use, or sell to someone who will.

For more information, search on "land value taxation."

I know this is old news but I think the subject still is important in US and here in EU.
There has been charitable groups (medicine profession and others) who made affordable housing to prove that it benefits all groups.

The "so called" Affordable Housing, isnt actually affordable at all- with the asking Annual household income being $60k, to over $100k in order for individuals to qualify. That sure doesn't sound Affordable to me. Most low income having individuals wouldn't be able to receive a housing subsidy if they was making this type of money every year, so CLEARLY these so called "affordable" housing is NOT being built for the individuals with the lower incomes. In other words the people making Annual incomes in the $30,000 ranges and BELOW are losing out BIG TIME! Partly because it's all about a "HIGH CREDIT SCORE" & you must have a "HIGH INCOME" in order to be considered for tenancy in a so called Affordable Housing building or Apartments now. The NYC Housing Connect properties presently going up all over NY right now is a prime example. Most poor people (who actually take up most space in the Homeless Shelters, and those that have housing vouchers) do NOT qualify for the "Affordable" Housing at all, because they either have an extremely low income ($30,000 Annual income or lower), or they're between jobs, only working part time w/minimum wages, or are unemployed, or on fixed incomes such as Disability benefits. All of the people, that fit in the lower income brackets are basically INVISIBLE presently, when it comes to these "Affordable Housing". And it's by design, because if you pay attention, this all started right along with Gentrification. So it's a game of, "Ignore the poor struggling folks, that's lived in these neighborhoods for years and even decades, worked in these neighborhoods for decades and years, ignore those struggling poor people whose children went to daycare/school in theseneighborhoods, ignore the struggling people that's been waiting for years for housing out here living in Homeless Shelters in these same neighborhoods. Instead let's roll out the RED CARPET for these Gentrifiers coming into these struggling poor towns! They have no problem paying over priced (high) rent amounts, and they all have perfect Credit Scores. To make it twice as difficult for the struggling folks, let's make Credit scores a requirement to qualify for apartments, and set the Annual income Really High as another qualification for any apartment, not just the so called "Affordable Housing" buildings which most regualar working folks cannot afford to live in. THIS is what's going on. The poor folks that actually NEED the housing are now INVISIBLE & are pretty much non existent. Even the PHA's are giving the "poor" tenants an extremely hard time, when they're looking for new housing. Real Estate agencies, Management companies all giving the poor tenants/people a hard time with these new rules & restrictions which goes right along the line of HOUSING DISCRIMINATION! The Mayor of NY is very aware of this Housing Crisis, and his solution is not to build more buildings that will house the "Extremely low & Critically low" income having individuals. He wants to create MORE HOMELESS SHELTERS? Wow! Dont we have a great Mayor here in NY? He recognizes there is a Housing Crisis here in NY state (Homeless shelters over crowded, Millions on Section 8 vouchers, while Thousands are on the waiting list for vouchers, because the rent is Super High everywhere now…and his solution isnt to build more Housing for the struggling poor, nope- He wants to make more homeless shelters to put us in, after we end up on the Streets because we cant find a place to live at all. This includes not being able to find housing in what's considered the worst neighborhoods in the 5 boroughs. Since Gentrification, its damn near impossible for Poor folks (many of which work and pay taxes, and have families) to find an apartment. The housing Market (includes the Affordable Housing) has made the poor people INVISIBLE, it's all about the NEW FOLKS with the Great Credit, & High Incomes! That's who the RED CARPET is rolled out for.

The only ones who "win" are investors and landlords. I have lived in my house for 12 years. I am being kicked out of it because I now have a section 8 voucher and the landlords in the city of Fresno are dropping and evicting all the section 8 voucher recipients. People don't want to be homeless, contrary to popular opinion. They have vouchers because they earned them! It is a difficult porgram to qualify for! It is a subsidized rent program that helps many poor, and they also have other programs, like education and grants. I graduated from college with grants I won by getting good grades and doing what was required. I have always been in compliance and a good tenant, pay my rent. but now I also was given notice to move out. I have searched for almost 3 moths, there are so few places that accept section 8, and those are run by slumlords, it is a rat and cockroach infested ghetto, they even put poison in the grounds and there are dead pigeons in the premises, and there is a waiting list for any size units, particularly one and two bedrooms, and the rents are so high for this hell holes that the section 8 voucher can not cover it. There are many hundreds of families being evicted just because they have a voucher! A woman who is a manager of a place here in Fresno told me today that the apartment complex next to her has about 400 units, and many of those living there with a section 8 voucher have been given notice to move out! How is this making America great again? Where are all these people going to go? The county does not have the resources anymore to help all the families being displaced. Centro La Familia told me this yesterday. I was also told that the Mayor knows of the affordable housing crisis but she is not doing anything about it. Someone needs to stop the landlords from raising the rents almost double and more affordable housing programs are needed for all the people who are now homeless, and many more will be.

Well does anyone pulls numbers on how 20 million illegal aliens drive up the cost of housing for our poor? Or for that matter the cost of everything? Food, water, power, jails, schools, and the list goes on. Hard to argue with supply and demand and that's why the tv never mentions these facts. When illegals come here they do not live in tents. They suck up our resources so if you don't like the wall then get ready to pay more! The cost of illegal immigration is 130 billion a yr and this doesn't account for your goods getting more expensive in the process. If trump spent 30 billion on the wall (he actually wants less) then its a good investment for our children. They create the problem and then force a ridiculous solution on us. Just like obamacare they will claim that another social program is the way to fix this problem. Even Bernie sanders said you cant import millions of poor and expect the standard of living to go up!

is there an equation for working out whether a house is defined as being affordable i.e . what exact amount of available money you would need to earn minus debt and other essentials to be able to afford a house ? If not then your just conning people and the government

Ineptocracy (in-ep-toc’-ra-cy) – a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

many of them aren't even registered, neighbors across from me show up as an empty unit, below me the woman rented out a $1500 apartment last june, never saw her again, windows open, empty, just saw her again when her lease was up, never moved in, what the f? she paid $1500 and never moved in? just to have an american address for benefits? it must have been FREE!!!! the taxes that come from my paycheck paid for her empty apartment so she could have an address for her benefit checks., how did she even get the apartment? do they just look the other way when signing a lease? the crap i went through just to live here was ridiculous, i should have just said, "oh…im an immigrant…."
who pays that amount to live in an empty apartment? to never move in yet pay rent? its affordable housing, meaning, not low income, but an income limit. so…poor people. i doubt its even 71% whites, if you go door to door, there's many undocumented, many mothers who get the benefit of staying home with their kids while their husbands are in different countries sending money, mom/kids getting $1200 in food/free housing benefits, husband sending money, never paying a penny in taxes. MY taxes pay their rent, while i have to feed my kids pb&j until payday.
sorry, but, take care of our own people before others, at least im working, building a career, these people take advantage, i cant even get a small amount of help that i need because its a competition with the immigrants (help, as in lower rent, $2000 is the lowest rent here, not asking for hand outs or free stuff, just the fact that my rent went up $300 in 2 months, now they have in our lease that they can up the rent whenever they want, i resigned in april, extra $100, in May they say its going up another $200, i pay in FULL, since i pay all money can i get some type of deal? yeah to the people with sectopn 8(HUD) their rent goes from $400 to $475
I'm just trying to get some place in life,, Im trying my hardest but everytime i feel i get a little ahead, they push me back down again.
these people get free cars too. mine breaks down every few months cause i cant afford to get a new one.

If housing isn't affordable it's also bad for jobs and businesses because people don't have enough disposable income to spend on businesses thus businesses close because people's money goes all to rent , if I were a business I'll be very mad at the real estate market and I'll be spending money to house my own employees for cheap, so they can have extra spending money to stimulate the economy , because soon there won't be any jobs left because of the greed of housing market , then when u have so many regulations that stops housing from being built that doesn't help either , the next business that closes you could thank greedy ass people in the housing market , makes no sense to spend any more than 800-1000 for a 1 bedroom apartment market rate , but realistically we should be spending 400-500 for a 1bedroom and 600-700 a month for rent a 2bedroom and so on in the cities if people spent that much money on rent and worked full time , they'll have like over 1,000 a month left over , that can easily be used to buy whatever they want go to stores retail fast food furniture the mall the movies more food , restaurants , amusement parks clothing stores , and the list goes on and on , instead rents are like 1200-3000 for a apartment and homes are like over 300k-500k for a decent priced home when homes should be no more than 100k , I don't care what anybody says , you don't create as many jobs charging people outrageous amounts of rent and home prices rising , the only benefits of those price rises are small home owners and real estate companys that don't even employ as many people, with more disposable income crime will go down and people will be happier , if people hate the affordable housing projects than , there should be a work requirement? Plain and simple , nobody that works 40 hours a week deserves to pay outrageous rent prices ,

i am so glad someone has done something out in the news!! the rent prices are going up so high, so quick, people's incomes cant keep up with these prices… all across the USA, our company has seen prices for rental go up by $400 to $600 per month over the past 18 months. we cant help more and more customers because a single mom making $60k a year just isnt good enough to be able to afford a safe place for her children…. this is a SAD, SAD situation! something must be done to stop this!, people are strugling to pay rents using aproximately 1/2 their income a month…. these property management companies know that buying a home isnt easy and are taking full advantage… people are living in cars, in tents ((like in seattle)) and moving back in with families….
