On the heels of a chaotic first round in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, the second round begins Saturday with eight games spanning the day as teams look to punch their Sweet 16 tickets. Among those in action will be a couple of budding Cinderella stories as No. 13 seed Furman starts the day by taking on No. 5 seed San Diego State, while No. 15 seed Princeton matches up against No. 7 seed Missouri later on in the day.
The Paladins made the most of their first Big Dance appearance since 1980 by stunning No. 4 seed Virginia in the first round with help from a wild final sequence. If they can keep the magic going, they could be in line to face No. 1 overall seed Alabama in the Sweet 16. Of course, the Crimson Tide must get past No. 8 seed Maryland in the final game of Saturday’s slate.
As for Princeton, the Tigers are coming off their first NCAA Tournament victory since 1998, and there was nothing flukey about their win over No. 2 seed Arizona. They will be trying to make it three years in a row that a No. 15 seed has reached the Sweet 16 when they play a resurgent Mizzou program. With big-name programs such as Duke, Kansas, Houston, Texas and UCLA also in action, Saturday figures to provide plenty of memorable moments as the second-round action highlights the weekend.Â
